CMS-1500 Q&A Webinars

In order to increase health care provider participation in the workers' compensation system and improve injured workers' access to timely, quality medical care, the Workers' Compensation Board (Board) is supporting electronic submission of CMS-1500 forms, along with a medical narrative. The CMS-1500 streamlines medical billing and may reduce the paperwork requirements currently in the workers' compensation system.

Free webinar to address your questions

The Board is hosting four free online Q&A webinars to give you an update on the initiative and answer your questions about CMS-1500. Each one-hour session will provide a brief overview of the CMS-1500 initiative as well as the most frequently asked questions we've received. We will use the remaining time to answer any additional questions you have. Each webinar will cover identical material.

Register for the First eClaims Webinar of 2020

About the Project

The Business Information System (BIS) Project is part of the Workers' Compensation Board's multi-year modernization effort. The current eClaims Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) platform will be upgraded to the current International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC) Claims EDI R3.1 standard, effective March 15, 2021. The R3.1 upgrade will boost the accuracy of First Reports of Injury (FROIs) and Subsequent Reports of Injury (SROIs) to improve claim efficiencies. As a result, all Trading Partners will benefit regardless of their affiliation with IAIABC.

To assist you with the upcoming R3.1 upgrade, the Workers' Compensation Board will begin hosting monthly, one-hour webinars to inform Trading Partners on important updates.

The monthly webinars will cover:

  • What is changing from R3.0 to R3.1
  • How these changes will affect you
  • What to expect in the coming months

An agenda will be provided to attendees prior to the webinar.

Expanded Provider Law Webinars

As of January 1, 2020, licensed clinical social workers, nurse practitioners and acupuncturists, as well as physician assistants, occupational therapists and physical therapists can be authorized to treat injured workers in New York State. Going forward, only those providers who are Board authorized may treat workers' compensation patients.

The Workers' Compensation Board is hosting free online Q&A webinars for newly-authorized providers. These one hour sessions will cover an overview of the Expanded Provider Law as well as the most frequently asked questions we've received from providers, including questions on medical billing and reporting forms. We will use the remaining time to answer any additional questions you have.

  • The webinar I want to attend is full. What can I do?
    • If a session says FULL next to it, you will not be able to register for that session, or join it, unless you already registered and received a confirmation for that date. You must register for another webinar date where space is still available.
  • I received a confirmation email and access link, but I am having trouble getting into the webinar. How can I join?
    • If you are having technical issues with using WebEx, please call Cisco for support at (866) 229-3239. If a Board staff person’s contact information is listed on your confirmation email for assistance, please note they will be running the webinar and will not be available to assist you during that time.
  • I didn’t receive a confirmation email – how can I join a webinar?
    • You should have received a confirmation email with an access link shortly after you registered to attend one of our webinars. If you didn’t receive a confirmation email:
      • Check your junk/spam folder to make sure you didn’t receive it.
      • Email – we can check if you’re registered and resend you the confirmation email or register you on your behalf if there is still space available.
      • If the webinar is starting shortly and there are still spaces available, try registering for the webinar again.
      • If you need technical assistance with using WebEx, please call Cisco for support at (866) 229-3239.
  • Webinar emails are going to my spam/junk folder. How can I fix this?
    • After registering for webinars, confirmation and reminder emails will be sent by To ensure messages from do not go to your spam/junk folder, add to your CONTACTS or ADDRESS BOOK.
    • Alternatively, if these emails are already in your spam/junk folder, you can go to the email from within your spam/junk folder and make these changes based on your email client.
      • Gmail: with the email from opened, select the “Not spam” button at the top.
      • Outlook: with the email from opened, select the “Junk” button at the top, and then select “Not junk”.
      • Yahoo! Mail: with the email from opened, select “Not Spam” at the top.
  • Can I add the webinar to my calendar?
    • Yes. After registering for a webinar, you will receive a confirmation email from If your calendar application supports the iCalendar standard, you can add a scheduled meeting to it.
    • To add a WebEx meeting to your calendar, select the link at the bottom of your confirmation email following “To add this meeting to your calendar program (for example Microsoft Outlook), click this link” to download and import the iCalendar file (.ics) to your calendar.
  • Can I use the link in the confirmation email to attend multiple webinar dates?
    • No. The link you receive will only work for the date of the webinar you are registering for. You will need to register for each specific webinar date you want to attend.
  • How do I know I can use WebEx on my computer or mobile device?
