Subject No. 046-724

Deadline for World Trade Center Registrations
is September 11, 2014

Date: September 3, 2014

Last November, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law significant protections for World Trade Center rescue, recovery, and clean-up workers, including the reopening of the World Trade Center Registry at the NYS Workers' Compensation Board. The deadline for registrations is September 11, 2014.

Those who participated in the rescue, recovery and clean-up of the World Trade Center between Sept. 11, 2001, and Sept. 11, 2002, should promptly register their service with the NYS Workers' Compensation Board whether or not they are sick or injured. This will preserve their rights to future benefits, should they ever need them.

Workers should file a WTC-12 form whether they were employed or volunteered. This includes duty at Ground Zero, the Fresh Kills Landfill, on the barges, the piers and the morgues. Paid workers and volunteers covered under the New York State workers' compensation system are eligible.

The completed, notarized WTC-12 form must be received in a Board office by Sept. 11, 2014. A postmark by that date or a fax copy is not sufficient. Workers can obtain a form from any Board office or or from the Board's website on the World Trade Center page. The WTC-12 is available in eight languages.

We appreciate the continued assistance of members of the workers' compensation community in spreading this message. For updates, follow the Board on Twitter and Facebook.
