The recent adoption of the Indexing and Controverted Claims regulations impacts how the Board handles all workers' compensation claims. In conjunction with these regulations, the Board is implementing a new process for assembling and indexing cases. Beginning September 29, 2008, the Board will now assign case numbers at the time it assembles a case, which will result in more case numbers used. This requires a new format for WCB case numbers. This subject number is directed toward the information technology staff at insurance carriers, third party administrators and self–insured entities that may need to reprogram their systems to accommodate this change.
Currently, the standard case number structure is eight numeric characters. However, there are two exceptions.
Starting September 29th, while the standard case number structure remains eight characters, it will now begin with an alpha character, followed by seven numeric characters. For example, G1234567.
The WCB case number will not designate the district or year the case was created.
Please contact the Board at 1-877-632-4996 with any questions.
