Subject Number 046-1482 Temporary Suspension of Dr. Asim Hameedi

Subject Numbers Regarding Health Provider Authorizations

Authorization No. 214380-8B

December 15, 2021

Pursuant to Workers' Compensation Law Section 13-d(4), the Chair of the New York State Workers' Compensation Board has exercised her authority to temporarily suspend Dr. Asim Hameedi's authorizations to treat injured workers and perform independent medical examinations within the New York State workers' compensation system effective December 10, 2021. Dr. Hameedi's last known business address is:

213-18 Union Turnpike
Bayside, New York 11364

The Chair's designee's investigation has revealed that the New York State Department of Health, State Board for Professional Medical Conduct (BPMC) has issued Order # 21-244, wherein the Hearing Committee unanimously voted 3-0 to sustain the charge that Dr. Hameedi committed professional medical conduct in violation of Education Law §6530(9)(a)(ii), in that, on or about May 20, 2021, he was convicted in the United States District Court, Southern District of New York, to the felony crime of Conspiracy to Commit Health Care Fraud in violation of 18 U.S.C. §1347. This resulted in a 15-month suspension, and a 2 1/2 year probationary period, during which Dr. Hameedi may practice medicine only when monitored by a certified billing and coding specialist.

Therefore, the Chair believes that Dr. Hameedi may be guilty of misconduct as described in Education Law §6530(9)(a)(ii) and 18 U.S.C. §1347, and that such misconduct would detrimentally affect the quality of care provided to injured workers.

Dr. Hameedi is prohibited from rendering treatment and care to injured workers, from performing independent medical examinations, and from conducting reviews of records regarding variance requests pursuant to 12 NYCRR § 324.3(b)(2)(ii)(a), while his authorizations are temporarily suspended. Reports submitted by Dr. Hameedi for services rendered prior to December 10, 2021, are valid but are invalid for any services rendered on or after that date. Requests to cross-examine Dr. Hameedi for services rendered prior to December 10, 2021, should not be denied due to the suspension of his authorizations.

This suspension remains in effect until further notice. Any questions regarding the authorized lists should be referred to the Medical Director's Office at 1 (800) 781-2362.
