BPR Project Sponsor Update

February Update

Greetings! I hope that you are all staying safe during this cold and snowy winter.

I have some good news to share with you about progress on BPR initiatives and updates on our latest outreach efforts. First, I’m pleased to inform you that the Medical Portal team has published the results of its stakeholder outreach. You may recall that the team used the December District Dialogue meetings to elicit stakeholders’ wants and needs for the portal. The feedback has been terrific and will be a big help in identifying the portal’s capabilities. The document, Here’s What We Are Hearing–Medical Portal Outreach, is located in the BPR section of the Board’s website, on the Implementation Phase Communication page.

In addition, the Payor Compliance team is working on developing proposed timeliness reports in four key areas: Report of Injury (FROI), SROI First Payment, Initial Payment of Compensation and Notice of Controversy. The team is also working on a report for Percentage of Claims Controverted. The team is looking forward to sharing the draft reports with payors within the next month.

In outreach news, I would like to announce that the March 2015 District Dialogue sessions have been scheduled. The schedule is listed below. The schedule will appear on the Board’s Outreach Calendar shortly. Please monitor the Board’s Outreach Calendar for the latest information. You can easily reach the Outreach Calendar from the Board’s home page. Just click on the Outreach Calendar link on the bottom right hand corner of the page.

The second Advisory Council meeting has also been scheduled for May 1, 2015. I am quite pleased that the Advisory Council, which grew out of the BPR focus groups, is now a permanent entity of the Board. Although it operates independently of the BPR project, I will be giving news about the Council in future updates whenever their feedback influences the direction of the BPR.

I am very pleased that our BPR initiatives are gaining traction, and that our outreach efforts have become an integrated part of the project, even in spite of the weather! That is due in no small part to your participation, for which I am very grateful. If you have feedback or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to write into the BPR mailbox: BPR@wcb.ny.gov.

On a final note, I value the collaborative relationship the team has created with our stakeholders quite highly. Gaining consensus among diverse groups is never easy, but incorporating the input, knowledge and experience of so many people into the planning and implementation of this project has been well worth the effort. New York will have a stronger workers’ compensation system as a result, one that better serves the needs of injured workers and employers. Thank you very much for your continued participation and commitment!
